Name: AIDS treatment pioneer Dr. Bob Wallace, MD will be the featured speaker
Date: November 30, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EST
Event Description:
Link: To help commemorate World AIDS Day 2017 (December 1st), local AIDS treatment pioneer Dr. Bob Wallace, MD will be the featured speaker on Thursday, November 30th at the Gulfport Public Library (5501 28th Ave. S., Gulfport, Florida) at 7pm. Dr. Wallace is a pioneer in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. When his office opened in 1987 in St. Petersburg, Florida he participated in every clinical trial possible to help stop the spread of HIV. “Dr. Bob” made it his passion to attend every HIV conference related to the treatment of HIV/AIDS. In one trial known as FTC 303, Dr. Bob’s office had more patients enrolled in St. Petersburg than any other practice in the world.  He was a lead investigator until joining Gilead Sciences in 2001. The drug he studied in clinical trial would become known as Emtriva, a key component of four of the once daily combination medications available today. He was the first Medical Director for the State of Florida Disease Management Program, known as Positive Healthcare from 1999-2000. He was also one of the founding board members of the organization that would come to be known as The American Academy of HIV Medicine. Dr. Wallace opened his current practice, a 501(c) 3 non-profit in 2014 called Love the Golden Rule, Inc., also known as “The Clinic at 721.” The practice focuses on four areas; Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS (of which he is the only AAHIVS certified doctor in St. Petersburg), Primary Care, and Obesity. To date, The Clinic at 721 has cured over 400 Floridians of Hepatitis C. Before speaking, Dr. Wallace will show a short video presentation, entitled “Tapestry: the Faces of AIDS,” produced in 2015 which features interviews and footage detailing his personal history as an AIDS treatment provider from the beginnings of the epidemic to the present. The event is sponsored by the LGBTQ Resource Center, a project of the non-profit Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library.  The Resource Center provides collections, services and events throughout the year to the local LGBTQ community, its friends and family.  Find out more about the Resource Center, the Circle of Friends and the Library on the web at, or on Facebook at,
