Art Exhibit: A Half Century of Artistic Work by Patricia Hardwick
Name: Art Exhibit: A Half Century of Artistic Work by Patricia Hardwick
Date: May 4, 2018 - May 30, 2018
I have been crafting and painting for the majority of my life, 50 years. Most recently in January, 2018 I opened a small studio/gallery at the Skyway Marina Mal, 4301 34th St South in St Petersburg, Florida, which is open Thursdays through Sundays. In 2017 I was honored to be the Curator for the Veteran Art Center of Tampa Bay located at The Crosswinds Center in Pinellas Park. In 2012 my friend Cathy Lees and I opened a small studio/gallery, Start Raven Art Gallery, in the Peninsula Inn located in Gulfport, Florida. The three years we had that space I totally enjoyed meeting people from Gulfport and visitors from around the world. I fell in love with the picturesque town as subject matter for many of my paintings. The colors, light, abundant subject matter and even the air of my Florida home inspire me to paint. Before coming to St. Petersburg I was inspired by the beauty of Shasta wilderness in California. I was able to study at the Shasta College where I painted many theater backdrop murals and was encouraged to paint fantastical works as well as my landscapes and still life. These early paintings are signed PF, for Patricia Farrell. The signature changed to PH in 1985 when I remarried. My time in California exploded my horizons for subject matter and style. Mostly, while there, I gained confidence in my ability to create. I tried several different mediums and crafts, but predominantly painted. I can paint in a small studio with relatively inexpensive materials and tools as opposed to a wood shop or a porcelain studio. Way back when, in the mid-sixties, I started out painting hippie posters which I sold in a small headshop in Iowa. I progressed to watercolor painting and acrylic scenes and landscapes. When I was looking for paintings for this Catherine Hickman presentation I was able to locate several of the early paintings from the 1970’s to my most current pieces. Some haven’t been seen for many years, some never by the public. They are from my personal collections and from private persons’ collections. There will be an Opening Night reception May 4th, 2018, from 6pm until 8pm at the Catherine Hickman Theater. The show will hang for the month of May. No paintings will be sold at the Hickman. If you are interested in a particular piece being displayed, please contact me at 707 548 3611 or come by my studio at Skyway Marina Mall, in the back row, NW corner, B-13. I am pleased and excited to share this collection with people at this time, it spans 50 years of my life creating. Each piece is a personal memento of my life with its’ own story. I would like to thank you in advance for coming and viewing my work.
